At This is Us / Nosotras / Waguia, unity isn’t just a word — it’s the foundation of everything we do. As Garífuna women from across Central America now living in Houston, we recognize the power that comes from standing together.
As Garífuna women, our culture guides us daily. It lives in our language, dances, stories, and traditions. Through every song, dish, and ritual, we preserve the legacy of our ancestors and pass it proudly to future generations.
Your support helps fund programs that change lives and honor our roots.
At This is Us / Nosotras / Waguia, we are led by proud Garífuna women who live the mission every day. Each member of our team brings heart, heritage, and hands-on dedication to uplifting our community.
A passionate advocate for Garífuna identity and empowerment, Nancy leads with vision and heart. Her leadership is rooted in culture, compassion, and a lifelong commitment to uplifting women.
I was born in Honduras, immigrated to the U.S. at age 9 and dedicated my career to serving communities with compassion and bilingual excellence. With certifications in computer literacy and community health, I spent over a decade as a patient services representative at California Pacific Medical Center and later as a senior bilingual eligibility worker with San Francisco’s Human Services Agency.
Now based in Houston, Texas, I worked as a bilingual care coordinator at Included Health, Inc., where I supported English- and Spanish-speaking patients with empathy and care. A proud daughter and fluent Spanish speaker, I helped her parents become U.S. citizens and continue to honor their sacrifices.
Beyond my healthcare role, I serve on the board of Arriba Juntos/Upwork Together. As a Garifuna woman I seek to be an open book to women who seek growth and need a safe haven to share their thoughts and worries. I am PROUD to be a Garifuna woman and I want to help every Garifuna woman embrace their inner and outer beauty as they evolve into the woman they were meant to be.

From Honduras to Healing
Born in Limón, Colón, Honduras, I came to the U.S. at ten, carrying with me the strength of my Garifuna roots. My journey into healthcare began as a Medical Assistant and evolved through mentorship, motherhood, and perseverance. Today, I’m a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner at Champions Point Family Clinic, blending clinical skill with cultural compassion.
I’ve returned to Honduras on medical missions, earned my Master’s in Nursing, and now mentor young Latinas and Garifunas pursuing careers in medicine. My purpose is to give back, bridge health disparities, and prove that humble beginnings can lead to powerful impact.

Courtney is the voice behind the records and the bridge for internal communication. Her work keeps us connected, organized, and thriving.
Born and raised in Houston, Texas by a strong single mother, I was taught early the value of resilience, discipline, and tough love. A proud Honor Roll student, I originally dreamed of becoming a lawyer, but my journey led me into healthcare. After Hurricane Ike disrupted my early studies in behavioral health, I pivoted—becoming a Certified Nurse Assistant and later a Behavioral Health Technician at Memorial Hermann.
Through these experiences, my passion evolved toward psychiatric nursing or radiology. I’m also a published author, using writing as a tool for healing and storytelling. My mission is to help others through every skill I’ve gained—whether in healthcare, literature, or life experience. I’m honored to grow with and contribute to This Is Us / Nosotras / Waguia, sharing my voice, my struggles, and my wins with a sisterhood that uplifts.

With a deep sense of responsibility and love for her community, Briannah ensures transparency and stewardship of every donation that supports our mission.
As an Afro-Latina woman, I’ve often had to explain my identity and search for true belonging. Growing up in San Francisco, I longed for a deeper sense of community. Since moving to Texas, I’ve found that community—yet still seek a space created by and for women like us.
Joining This Is Us / Nosotras / Waguia has given me purpose. I envision this group as a nurturing place where women of color can grow, support one another, and build a legacy that uplifts generations. My hope is that every woman of color finds her place here and helps us create something greater than ourselves.
